Cassandra Gurgiolo-Romero, MD

Dr. Cassandra Gurgiolo-Romero (pronounced Ka-san-dra Gur-gee-O-lo Ro-MER-o) has been practicing internal medicine since 2015. Her areas of clinical interest include public health, infectious disease, diabetes, mellitus, cirrhosis, transplant medicine, and renal disease. She is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Basic Life Support.

Dr. Cassandra Gurgiolo-Romero completed her undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD and majored in Public Health. She went to the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, TX, and completed her residency there, specializing in internal medicine. She also has a Master of Health Science in Environmental Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Baltimore, MD. Dr. Gurgiolo-Romero is a member of the Texas Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

She works with transplant patients, including liver, kidney, and heart transplant recipients, and is especially interested in opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients. Dr. Gurgiolo-Romero has experience with medical co-management of surgical patients, and in managing diabetes post-transplant.

In addition to English, she speaks fluent Spanish. On a personal note, she is an avid gardener and enjoys kayaking, swimming, traveling, reading, cooking and baking.

Dr. Gurgiolo-Romero is married, has a young son, and she and her family visit Colombia at least once a year.
