Robert West, MD

Glendale, AZ — Robert F. West, MD, MMed, is being recognized as a Pinnacle Medical Professional in the Internal Medicine field and in acknowledgment of his work with Village Medical in Gilbert, Arizona.

Dr. West serves as an Internist and Skin Cancer Specialist at Village Medical, which serves patients in the greater Phoenix and Tucson AZ, regions. Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. West started his new position at Village Medical April 2022. He leads the clinics innovative Skin Cancer Clinic. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology, such as dermoscopy and serial photography, Dr. West can thoroughly examine suspicious lesions and moles on the skin and monitor any progress that may occur in them over time. If skin cancer is detected, he can treat the majority of cases in the primary care setting, if referral is indicated, he will help patients navigate to the best specialists in the area. Arizona leads the nation in skin cancer rates, and Dr. West is the only physician in the state who holds a Master of Medicine in Skin Cancer Management.

 As part of his clinical duties, Dr. West also provides specialized treatment of valley fever. This fungal infection often occurs in patients due to dust storms in the central, AZ, region’s dry desert climate.

 In pursuit of his medical career, Dr. West first obtained a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Arizona in 1991. He went on to earn his Medical Degree from the University of Arizona’s School of Medicine in 1996. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona in 1996. To further his training, Dr. West also completed a Master of Medicine in Skin Cancer Management from the University of Queensland in Australia in 2020.

 Due to his extensive medical training, Dr. West is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Among his professional affiliations, he is also a member of the American Medical Association.

 Outside of his medical practice, Dr. West is an active member of The Table Baptist Church. He additionally serves as a Commodore with the Hobie Catamaran Fleet, participating in yearly and national regattas. In his free time, he also enjoys being outdoors with his family. Their favorite activities include hiking, mountain biking, and sailing.

 Dr. West would like to dedicate this honor to David Swanson, MD, his mentor, who serves as Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, and will be co-subject matter expert on a Dermoscopy themed ECHO Program sponsored through Arizona State University.
